I still remember it like it was yesterday. My meeting with Shaelah and her mom at Starbucks to discuss her vision for her senior portraits. Shaelah struck me as deeply grounded, someone who loves her family but also unafraid to pursue her own dreams. There was such a great sense of excitement, brainstorming ideas to best capture her high school experience while looking forward to the college journey ahead.
At one point during the portrait session, I blurted out loud, “Gosh I love this family.” You see, Shaelah wanted to incorporate family photos during her senior session, and I’m all for that! It’s easy to see why this was her desire. Her family is the best cheering squad! Shaelah really wanted photos in front of a particular barn door. Unfortunately, the lighting was extremely harsh. So her mother held up a large blanket (used for Shaelah to change into different outfits) to shade her from the harsh light. This family doesn’t back down from making dreams come true. 🙂 And when they all came dressed in supportive tees for Shaelah’s volleyball, I wanted to be adopted by them. 😛
I captured these portraits when I was pregnant with Khang and finishing my dissertation. I was transparent with the family that I’d deliver their gallery by the school’s deadline but wouldn’t have time to blog it. Now, two years later, I sit down to write this blog as if the events occurred just last week. You see, deep impressions were made and moments are forever etched in my memories. I am still in touch with Shaelah and Jennifer.
Shae – I hope you enjoy scrolling down memory lane with these beautiful images. You exuded so much charm, joy, and got that casual chic look nailed down. 🙂
